Sev Necati works in partnership with Ealing, and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime!

Sev Necati worked in partnership with Ealing, and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, to deliver our award winning project “Women & Young People’s Safety Solution.”

We delivered two successful courses and this is how our second course has empowered more women and young girls!

The course specifically designed for women and girls teaches them self-defence, self-empowerment and self-confidence.  The training has great benefits that assist in improving overall mental, emotional, physiological, health, as well as improving physical health, such as stamina, strength, and how to feel better about themselves, which allows more energy, a better mood, feeling more relaxed and be able to sleep better, because of less feelings of stress, anxiety, depression and low moods.

We aim to work with those women and girls that have experienced pass or current abuse and violence, to give them hope and insight into how to take more control and direct their lives into one that they deserve.  Our courses are open to all local residents, are all-inclusive regardless of age, ability or background, bringing women and girls all under one safe setting.

The Participant - Case Study - One

Maria, 53, White British, in relationship, no children.
Please tell us why you became involved in the project/activities?
I became involved in the course as it was firstly something I have always wanted to do, since a teenager and I have never seen a course advertised that I wanted to do like this one and I didn’t feel confident accessing it.

I live alone and I am on the next door app, I can see everything happening and my level of concern and living alone has gone up.

In general because of my age and being frustrated that we live in such a masculine world and is dictated by men and how women live, I like to feel I can empower women by breaking women’s mind set, and the norm of how women should and should not be perceived.

Please tell us how participating has helped you?
The sessions have helped me interesting on the one hand I am more rational about what I do, I am no longer having a general concern, I can focus my concerns, for example. I took a long walk in the country side and no one was about so I understand the risks.  Certainly I feel more prepared if something did happen and I feel more equipped to handle myself in a potential dangerous situation.

Being part of that all female environment was a real sense of building a spirit between the women, it felt very safe and people shared their stories and you created a safe environment.
The floor work was fantastic and how it impacted all of us and it was really powerful to take part in it.

Channelling my anger and practising on how to be assertive and I really enjoyed how I was able to do all the physical, no matter what the level of ability was, you encouraged everyone and I really loved taking part in that.

I feel enlightened with the discussions and the theory you delivered.

You are a real role model on what being assertive is for a lady and also to be funny and caring at the same time, you coached me individually, and was sensitive towards me, when I was not able to do some exercises I really appreciated it.

Please tell us what has changed for you as a result of engaging with the project?
What has changed for me, certain things really hit me, getting older for one and being really physically fit and staying physically fit is so important.  One of the other ladies really inspired me being an older member of the group, how she got stunk in, and making it a priority to stay physically fit.

I have talked to a lot of women about the stuff on the course and to raise awareness and they have been really appreciated.  There has been a lot interest.

You are like a gift that just keeps on giving!

Helping women to stay safe!
