Sev Necati worked in partnership with Arsenal in the Community and the Home Office around "Communities against Guns Gangs & Knives" to deliver a training programme to young people to reduce the fear of crime and violence. Sev delivered a "Personal Safety" programme to our young people aged between 10-19. The young people were from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities. The sessions were a combination of talk and practical in personal safety. Teaching young people how to be safe on the street, street awareness and practical techniques in conflict management. Techniques also included knife work.
The workshop included young people taking part in discussions as well as practical exercises in personal safety.
“I enjoyed the teamwork we all shared”
“I learnt how to defend myself from a knife”
“I enjoyed the practical part of the session and the drills”
Arsenal in the Community’s outreach work has taken place on estates and parks - offering local young people the opportunity to play football with the department and take advantage of the other education, social inclusion and employment programmes they have to offer.
These programmes embrace a wide variety of community involvement and they’re delivered and received with the same energy and commitment today as when they started 25 years ago.
James one of the coaches who work's with the young people said. “Sev delivered the workshop well and the young people were able to understand what message was being delivered"
