The Home Office & Minik Kardes work in partnership with Sev Necati Training

Sev Necati worked in partnership with Minik Kardes, in partnership with the Home Office around "Communities against Guns Gangs & Knives" to deliver a training programme to young girls and boys to help reduce serious youth crime and violence against them.

"We learnt about safety and the law."
"I liked when we done the acting part."
"Sev did not just tell us what to do, she made us participate."
"How to react when you are in an uncomfortable situation."

"I think it was a very practical and beneficial session.  The role plays were specifically helpful, the youngsters engaged a lot."  Ilkay Kucuk, Community Link Worker, Minik Kardes.

The Home Office says that, knife, gun and gang crime is wholly unacceptable and reducing it is a key priority for the government. Too many young lives are blighted by violent crime and they are committed to making our communities safer places for everyone.

The government’s has prioritised £10 million of Home Office investment into early intervention work in 2012-13, to support up to 30 areas 'most affected by gangs and youth violence'.

Minik Kardes can provide outreach services to the Turkish speaking community in Islington and Hackney.  Some of the services they offer are;
  • Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities Parenting Programme.
  • Advice, Guidance, Support and signposting on wide range of issues such as parenting, mental & physical health, benefits, domestic violence, education system.
  • One-to-one family support.

Sev says; "We had a vast range of young people from the ages of 9 to 16, mixed, boys and girls participating in the Personal Safety Training Course.  The young people engaged well, asking many questions around the topic area.  It was obvious that they had concerns and fears on the subject and were interested in learning as much as they could on the day.  The young people particularly enjoyed the part when they got to practice the techniques they were taught and gain a greater understanding of the topic area.  Both boys and girls engaged well, even though most of them did not know each other.  Some young people brought along their younger siblings, which showed how important this type of training is for a vast group of young people and families.  The support from Selda and her team at Minik Kardes was well received and they were able to easily relate to the young people and their issues."
