Crisis works in Partnership with Sev Necati Training

Sev Necati worked in partnership with Crisis to deliver a workshop for women in personal safety and self-defence that access the centre.

The programme took place at the Crisis Centre and the women took part in open discussions and practical exercises in self-defence, including sexual assault and rape scenarios and weapons training.

"I found Sev a very passionate and well organised trainer who brought a wealth of knowledge. Sev was very flexible with the training and tailored it to the needs of the women. Sev was very committed and offered beyond the scope of the training. The women enjoyed attending the sessions and asked for further training, a great sign! Also, the training helped forged bonds between the women and they supported one another. It was a very empowering course so a huge THANKS!!"
One participants comments: "Please bring Sev back ASAP .  I feel women only class is important."

Women's Progression Coach

We had women access the programme from a range of different backgrounds, cultures, ages and abilities.  All the women that took part thoroughly enjoyed the session with many of them expressing how their self-esteem and confidence levels had improved.

Some Comments from the females when asked what they enjoyed about the session:

“My teacher was amazing.  I found her motivating and empowering.  Excellent!!!”
“I would love it if the class was run as an ongoing course for women.”

“I really enjoyed the practical.”

Our projects work to inspire and empower females from all backgrounds and abilities.  We work towards building the confidence of these women and girls and hope we continue to uplift  them to make positive changes in their lives for their benefit.

The Participant - Case Study
Susan is a female 50, African-Caribbean Black-British, single.

Please tell us why you became involved in the project?
I got refereed to crisis by a counsellor I was seeing at a place for homeless people it was a drop in centre.  The counsellor told me about crisis to get my head clearer and get myself in a better place, I hit a wall because I was used to working.  I decided I wanted to join the project because at the time I was homeless I had anger issues.  This project would help and challenge my anger issues and give me some more direction and discipline on how to look after myself within the law.

Please tell us how participating helped you?
It has helped me to be more confident within the law and what I can and can’t do.  I think it has made me more aware of my surroundings.

Please tell us what has changed for you as a result of engaging with the project?
It has made me want to do more in terms of self-defence it’s got my juices flowing.   I would like to commit to classes on a weekly basis and it’s encouraged me to encourage other women to learn how to defend themselves.

Physically and mentally I feel stronger and more confident when I am going out and about.
And it has allowed me to discover me.  It has enabled me to be more myself like I use to be.  Before I was outgoing but after I became homeless I became an introvert now I am back to my old self.

I have found my inner lioness.  I feel more like a warrior.
