The Metropolitan Police and Gangs Unit in Hackney work with Sev Necati Training

Sev Necati Training working in partnership with The Metropolitan Police and Gangs Unit in Hackney to deliver "Personal Safety" training courses to young people aged between 10-25.

Sev worked in partnership with Hackney Marsh Partnership and the Peabody Trust. The sessions were delivered to inner city estates targeting young people at risk of exclusion, anti-social behaviour and at risk from gang activity.

“I felt the sessions were handled well with sometimes large groups of young people who can be difficult to manage as a group. With the staff supporting the sessions it was compact with theoretical and physical challenges for participants. I felt Sev delivered a positive session that was informative and interactive for all the young people involved. The sessions came at a time when young people were on alert for their personal safety with increased anti-social behaviour in our area.”

David Ali, Peabody Trust

The young people were from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities, with both females and males participating in the sessions. The sessions were a combination of talk and practical in personal safety. Teaching young people how to be safe on the street, street awareness and practical techniques in conflict management. Techniques also included knife work.

“I enjoyed the practical”

“The best thing was learning self-defence”

“That it increased our knowledge and techniques, in case of a real event”

“There was a lot of action”

“How to handle a knife”

“The young people enjoyed the personal safety session; at first they were unsure but once Sev had explained and they understood there were a lot of practical activities they were up for it. The young people engaged well in the session because Sev made it relate to real life situations. They also had the opportunity to discuss situations they had been in or witnessed. The young people felt that Sev engaged well with them and after she left throughout the week there was lot's conversation about the techniques they had learnt in the session.”
Joyclen Brodie-Mends, Marsh Partnership
