Sev Necati worked in partnership with Arsenal in the Community and Petchey Academy in Hackney, in partnership with the Home Office around “"Communities against Guns Gangs & Knives" to deliver two training programme to young people to reduce the fear of crime and violence.
Sev delivered a "Personal Safety" programme to our young male pupils aged between 13-15. The sessions combined talking and practical exercises in personal safety. Teaching young people how to be safe on the street, street awareness and practical techniques in conflict resolution. Techniques also included knife work.
"I feel the session went very well and the kids that took part loved it because they always had a smile on their faces. They really learnt a lot about what to do in different situations.
I feel sessions like these should be ran a lot more because coming from Hackney myself these sort of things do happen, so you do need to know what to do if you come across danger.
Learning to use your voice and how to protect yourself is great. Thanks a lot.”
Davis Rizzolo Arsenal Coach
“I enjoyed the action and new self-defence technique.”
“I liked that I learnt what I could do to get out of a situation.”
“The session was very interaction.”
“Knowing what to do in a crime situation.”
“That we were role playing and doing a variety of self-defence.”
“It was fun. Also we learnt a lot of self-defence and the law.”
Arsenal in the Community’s works allows young people the opportunity to play football and take advantage of the other education, social inclusion and employment programmes they have to offer.
The Home Office says that, knife, gun and gang crime is wholly unacceptable and reducing it is a key priority for the government. Too many young lives are blighted by violent crime and we are committed to making our communities safer places for everyone.
The government’s has prioritised £10 million of Home Office investment into early intervention work in 2012-13, to support up to 30 areas 'most affected by gangs and youth violence'.
The Petchey Academy works together with the local community to identify and implement action, based on mutual respect and understanding of diverse cultures and contributions. The Petchey Academy’s sponsor, Jack Petchey follow his maxim, “If I think I can, I can” which proves an apt guide for anyone striving for excellence in their studies, extra-curricular activities and working relationships.

Leyton Orient works with Sev Necati Training
Sev Necati worked in partnership with Leyton Orient through the Kickz programme to deliver several training programmes too hard to reach young people.
The training focused on “Personal Safety” as well as “Gang & Knife” crime. Through discussions and practical exercises the young people were able to engage in conflict resolution training. Some of the young people were from the poorest and most deprived communities, where violence and crime can be a normal occurrence.
‘Sev Necati’s workshops have helped us to educate our young people in a variety of subject areas. She has vast knowledge and experience in her field and breaks things down to young people in a way that they can relate to.’ Paul Motion Community Development Officer
“I enjoyed the practical part of the session and interacting with others."
“I especially enjoyed learning about how to protect myself from a knife.”
“I enjoyed everything.”
Leyton Orient s Community Sports programme Kickz allows young people to play football and other sport and educational activities, as well as learn to coach. It aims to break down the barriers between young people and the police, reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as getting them to confront issues such as, gang related issues and the dangers of carrying guns and knives.
If you are working with hard to reach young people, those from Black, Asian and ethnic communities, those that have experienced violence, because of their own victimisation thus become perpetrators of crime, or any young person from the ages of 8 -25 then contact us. You, your organisation and the young people can also benefit from life saving training.

City Lit works with Sev Necati Training
Sev Necati worked in partnership with City Lit to deliver awareness and avoidance training to their staff and lone workers.
The training delivered to staff and management included teaching them to be aware, evaluate and diffuse situations. It provided a forum where they were able to ask questions about their own personal fears they may have in and outside of the workplace. They took part in a practical where what they had learnt in theory they could see and use in reality.
“We work in the community running Family learning courses and different adult only courses with a crèche . We work in different inner London boroughs, all our work happens out in the community , most of the time in very deprived areas. We tend to walk and use public transport.
All my staff were talking about the training for days afterwards and we will be personally recommending Sev’s training to others. Sev was great.”
Alison.L. Bernstein Family Learning Co-ordinator
“It made me more aware of what I should do in case things happen in the future. I also learned how to prevent myself from being a victim.”- Finnie
“I found this training extremely useful, both professionally and for my personal life. I am now more aware of how to conduct myself when out and about and also I understand better how to manage potentially difficult situations. Thank you. “– Mandy
“I found practising the defence moves to be really beneficial. Without the guided practise it is just all theory, but now I feel more equipped to deal with something if it arises.” - Lisa .
“I feel I have a better understanding of how to protect myself.” – Nuru
“I was attacked and mugged whilst walking alone almost 2 months ago. This was a devastating experience which affected my confidence and made me very afraid to walk outside. This incident also had a very big impact on my life as I need to do a lot of walking for my job and most of the time I am on my own , the fear of feeling so vulnerable was almost too much to bear , however after doing the training with Sev I now feel more confidence to walk outside alone and this is due to me being aware of how to protect myself and how to deal with potential difficult situations. I still feel quite vulnerable but I do have a greater awareness for my personal safety. Thank you.” - Alison
“It was fast-paced, no-nonsense advice, with an excellent practical”

Imperial College London works with Sev Necati Training
Sev Necati worked in partnership with Imperial College to deliver taster talks and personal safety sessions to their learners, over safer learner week. Apart from the food eating, students rated the self-defence workshop as the number one activity they most enjoyed, from five other workshops that were also delivered on the day.
The sessions were short slots in a talk on personal safety and practical. Learners were able to ask questions on the subject and practise techniques in self-defence.
“Sev worked at a pilot event that Commercial Services hosted for New students at Imperial College London. The event provided students with a number of different workshops to enhance their knowledge and skills of happy Living as a student in London. Sev delivered short burst workshops to groups of students, encouraging them to think about their general awareness and safety when out and about the streets of London and how to protect themselves practically if ever they were to be approached. This session really helped the International students to understand the reason behind being aware but also enabled them to build on their confidence of physically protecting themselves."
Samantha Bell Services Manager
